From Wisconsin, Thomas earned his BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in1964 and his MFA from the University of Illinois in 1966. He came to Boston in 1969 after teaching art at Cornell University. He was a member of the Copley Society in Boston where he achieved Copley Master status. He is a past president of the New England Watercolor Society. Now residing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida Thomas maintains membership in Arts United and is a signature member of the Golf Coast Watercolor Society, the Florida Watercolor Society, the Palm Beach Watercolor Society and the Miami Watercolor Society. He has won numerous awards in these organizations, as well as the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, the Cambridge Art Association and the Cape Cod Art Association. He has held several solo exhibitions and his work is represented in many private and corporate collections throughout the country and abroad. Thomas’ watercolors have been published widely locally, nationally and internationally.
Watercolor is my passion. I approach every painting with a sense of wonderment. Although my paintings have a definite design and structure, I treat the subject matter with playfulness and soul. The strength of color is essential to my work.
