Michael Lazar – Artist & Singer/Songwriter
Celebrating Iconography, Color, and the Power of Music

Michael Lazar is a multifaceted artist whose work merges the realms of visual art and music. Born in Concord, Massachusetts, Lazar was immersed in creativity from an early age. A lover of both music and visual expression, he began studying piano in second grade and expanded his creative pursuits by drawing Disney characters and crafting art from a young age. His passion for music and storytelling led him to attend New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he studied musical theatre and Shakespeare, shaping both his artistic and performing careers.

Lazar’s visual art, LAZAR ART, is a celebration of pop culture, nostalgia, and the power of iconography. Known for its vibrant colors, bold collage techniques, and the integration of familiar American cultural symbols, Lazar’s work reflects a playful yet poignant commentary on the entertainment industry and its impact on our everyday lives. His art incorporates familiar icons such as Hollywood, Disney, and classic symbols like hearts and stars, often reimagined in unexpected and striking ways.

A recent evolution in Lazar’s work is his Heart Full series, where he combines his love for symbolism with the delicate beauty of nature. In this series, Lazar paints the outline of a heart and fills it with a mix of different symbols, creating a powerful expression of love and identity. Central to this collection is his use of Monarch butterflies, which he personally raises on his balconies. Lazar takes photographs of these butterflies, prints them on his home printer, and carefully cuts them out to glue onto his prepared canvases, creating dynamic and heartfelt pieces that reflect both nature’s beauty and his personal connection to the process.

His technique blends collage, acrylic paint, spray paint, and paint pens, with much of his work on museum-quality paper, wood, or distressed materials that tell their own stories. Lazar’s painted worlds are filled with electric hues and characters drawn from the heart of popular culture, providing a sense of comfort and recognition while also offering new interpretations of familiar subjects.

In addition to his visual art, Lazar is an accomplished singer-songwriter. His album 51/49 explores themes of love, loss, and personal growth. As a performer, Lazar has toured internationally and worked with prestigious productions like Seussical the Musical and You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. His works as an artist and musician continue to garner attention in both New York City and South Florida, where he regularly performs and exhibits his work.

Lazar’s art and music come together as a dynamic reflection of his journey through the complexities of identity, culture, and self-expression.
