Laurence Young

From a very early age Laurence Young had a passion for making art and never veered very far from that conviction.  He grew up in Newton Massachusetts and attended the University of Hartford in Connecticut.  Laurence graduated with honors in 1974 with a BFA in art education. He was then hired as a middle-school classroom art teacher in Bloomfield Ct.  A tenure contract was offered at the end of his 3rd year but opted to attend the Rhode Island School of design receiving his Masters in Printmaking 1979

In 1981 he started his on design and fabric printmaking studio for the sportswear industry in NYC.  Never giving up on his ultimate dream of becoming a working artist sold the company after a successful ten year run and headed to Provincetown.  Under the tutelage of Lois Griffel, then the Dir. of the Cape Cod School of Art, Young studied and learned what it meant to become a full time artist while honing his painting skills.

For over 30 years Young has been part of the artist community in Provincetown. He has had solo shows and juried into numerous exhibitions. Laurence is currently exhibiting at Ray Wiggs Gallery in Provincetown, Powers Gallery in Acton, MA, to name a few. Laurence’s paintings are part of private and public collections such as Provincetown Art Association and Museum, NJ State Museum, and the Daniel Mullin collection.
