Dooney Potter
Dooney Potter, creator of Art by Dooney, is a figurative painter whose canvases balance mythic quiet with the grit and glow of contemporary life. Born in Medellín, Colombia, he earned a degree in electrical engineering from UCLA and worked for ten years at Boeing in Seattle. The discipline and systems-thinking of that chapter now shape his studio practice: careful drawing, layered color, and symbolism that rewards a second look. Dooney studied with Pacific Northwest Russian Impressionist Irina Milton, refining a luminous approach to skin tones and atmosphere while keeping the brush alive and expressive. Based in Wilton Manors with his husband, Mike Nemerof, he is engaged with the local LGBTQ+ arts community and shows work across South Florida. Alongside original paintings and prints, Dooney accepts commissions—including bespoke pet portraits—and provides private painting lessons for emerging and returning artists. His work invites viewers into intimate, cinematic moments where tenderness and tension quietly meet.

“Art lives at the threshold between the ordinary and the sacred”
