United & Proud: Colors with Meaning, celebrates the colors of the rainbow flag. FUN FACT: The original rainbow flag was conceived with 8 stripes. It was created in 1977 by Gilbert Baker, an artist, activist, and openly gay military veteran. Tasked by Harvey Milk, a historic figure in the fight for LGBTQ rights, to create a flag for the queer community. Each color in the flag was assigned a specific meaning – HOT PINK: Sex | RED: Life | ORANGE: Healing | YELLOW: Sunlight | GREEN: Nature | TURQUOISE: Magic | BLUE: Serenity | PURPLE: Spirit

Submitted artwork SHOULD feature one predominant color from the original 8 PRIDE colors listed above. We do not want to see ALL of the rainbow colors in one piece. All entries will be juried and only those selected by the juror will be accepted into the exhibit.

GUIDELINES: Open to painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor & alcohol inks), photography, 3D/Sculpture, mixed media, drawing, and digital/graphic arts.

File names should include Last Name, First Name, Title, Size and Price. EXAMPLE: Warhol-Andy-CampbellSoup-20×20-1500.jpg.

Minimum Size: 11″ x 14″ – Maximum Size: 36″ x 54″

ENTRY FEES: $35 for up to 3 artworks. ArtsUnited members only. If you are not a member or need to renew, click here.

PRICING YOUR WORK: ArtsUnited receives 30% of each artwork sale. Please be sure to add 30% to your submission price.

DEADLINE: Wednesday, May 24, 2023. Submit up to 3 works. Be sure to include your brief Artist Statement/Description for each artwork.

ACCEPTANCE: Before May 27, 2023. You will be notified by email if your artwork has been accepted or not for the exhibit.

EXHIBIT DATES: Saturday, June 10, 2023 thru Friday, July 7, 2023.

OPENING RECEPTION: Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 6pm-8pm. Awards will be announced at 7:30pm.

LOCATION: Island City Cultural Center, 600 NE 21st Court, Wilton Manors, FL 33305

Exhibit Hours:
During the exhibit, the Cultural Center will be open Friday & Saturday from 6pm-8pm.

INTAKE: Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 11am-1pm. Bring your chosen artwork to Island City Cultural Center.

*Be prepared! If your work is chose, clearly fill out and print the Intake Form and bring it with you to Intake on April 1st. IMPORTANT!!! Artwork(s) MUST be clearly labeled on the back with Artist Name, Title, Size and Price, including the 30%. All works MUST BE WIRED and suitable for gallery mounting (NO SAWTOOTH HANGERS or UNFRAMED WORKS).

YOUR ARTWORK MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE EXHIBIT. NO ART CAN BE PICKED UP BEFORE OUTTAKE.

OUTTAKE: Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 11am-1pm. If you are not available, please arrange to have someone pick up your artwork(s) on time.

ART SALES: ArtsUnited received 30% of each artwork sale. If artwork is sold during the exhibit, ArtsUnited has up to 30 days after exhibit closing to issue payment to the artist for the sold piece(s).
